The Brief

My Darby Street

We’re inviting local kids to create an artwork inspired by the street they know best.

Maybe it’s a flower outside a shop.

Maybe it’s a favourite café treat.

Maybe it’s a dog tied up outside a storefront.

Maybe it’s a friend, a family member, or a place they visit every week.

We’d love to see how children experience Darby Street through their own eyes.

Visual Inspiration

Artists are encouraged to explore:

– layering and texture

– warm seasonal colours

– Autumn Rooms’ signature electric blue

These elements can be interpreted however they like.

Medium

Drawing, painting, collage, mixed media and digital illustration (printed) are all welcome.

Size

All artworks should be submitted on A3 paper.

Remember

There is no right way to respond to the brief.

This isn’t about staying inside the lines.

It’s about imagination, expression and seeing Darby Street through a child’s perspective.

Who Can Enter

– Ages 2–12

– Open to local schools, families and regulars

The Exhibition

– Limited to 30 applicants

– Framed and hung upstairs at Autumn Rooms

– Displayed in-café for season of winter

– Each piece credited with the child’s first name and age

Selected artists will receive a small thank-you from us and will keep the framed work after the exhibition.

Gentle Recognition

Rather than one winner, we’ll acknowledge:

– Exhibited Artists

– People’s Choice

– Artist’s Picks — selected by local artist Mitch Revs

All exhibited artists receive a small art pack to keep creating.

Opening Morning 

A relaxed opening with kids milks, cookies and proud parents.

No speeches. No pressure. Just a moment.
